Chief Edward Condon

• Condon started with the old Union Engine Company.
• He was made "permanent engineer machinist and storekeeper" on July 14, 1903 (Mun. Arch., meeting minutes of July 14, 1903, p. 59).
• He was made Chief of the Halifax Fire Department on January 4th, 1917.
• Fire Chief Edward P. Condon died on December 6, 1917, when the munitions ship Mont Blanc exploded in front of Pier 6 in Halifax Harbour.
• Chief Condon was 60 years old and married at the time of his death; he lived at 117 Dresden Row. He was a full-time fire chief with the Halifax Fire Department. His death certificates lists the cause of death as "Shock due to injuries from explosion".
