Chief Patrick Broderick 1873-1916
• Union Engine Company member from 1973-1894.
• Patrick was made Chief of the Halifax Fire Department in May 1903.
• Chief Broderick became sick following an alarm call on November 17, 1916, and Edward Condon was made acting-chief on December 5th, as Broderick's health was not improving. He died a few days later, on December 23, 1917. The City viewed his death as a line of duty death, and the Board of Control compensated his widow accordingly (Board of Control meeting minutes, Dec. 5, 1916-Jan. 4, 1917).
