 • Captain William Thomas Broderick died on December 6, 1917, when the munitions ship Mont Blanc exploded in front of Pier 6 in Halifax Harbour. Captain Broderick was responding in the Patricia, a 1912 American LaFrance Type XII motorized fire truck, from Brunswick Street to the dockyard (box 83). The Patricia and its crew were already on scene at the time of the explosion
 
• Captain Broderick died immediately when the ship exploded.
 
• William Broderick was a full-time captain with the Halifax Fire Department, and lived on Queen Street in Halifax, at number 152. He was 32 years old and single. On his death record, the cause of death is labeled as “Shock due to injuries from explosion”.
