North Park Street and the Union Protection Company (U.P.C.)
-
The North Park Street UPC Hall was active by at least 1892, confirmed through the minutes of a meeting where the company held an election at that location.
-
This hall served as a base of operations for the Union Protection Company, a salvage-oriented fire service group originally formed in 1861 after the dissolution of the Union Engine Company. Over time, they came to be known simply as the U.P.C.
-
Earlier, the U.P.C. had operated from Barrington Street, in a building they owned. The shift to North Park Street marked a relocation later in the company's lifespan.
