On a 1784 map detailing the Halifax Naval Yard, a building identified with the letter “d” corresponds to an “Engine House” in the map’s legend (Nova Scotia Archives 1784), and in the details of a fire the year before, the “Dockyard” was referred as a body fighting fires in town, hence the later mentions of the “Dockyard Engine.
